Santa Ana, CA (August 18, 2008)—Every weekend at a CORR race event is a wild weekend. Championship Off Road Racing Rounds 9 & 10 at the Pomona Fairplex venue didn’t disappoint anyone in attendance or those sitting at home watching the race on SPEED and NBC Sports.

The entire CORR ProLite season has featured not only tight battles for the wins, but also for the overall championship point lead. The standings represented the usual suspects who always seem to be fighting for the lead at every race. No one has fought as hard as Rob “Fig” Naughton and his Team ReadyLift® Racing Team. Coming into the final Pomona race of the year, Rob knew he would have to step up his game another notch to try and close the point gap on leader Jeff Kincaid.

Saturday’s race seen Live on SPEED was jam packed with drama from the drop of the green flag all the way to the falling of the checkers. After a great qualifying run and inverted start order, Rob started several rows back from the front. In front was some of CORR’s best ProLite drivers such as Marty Hart, Chad Hord and Casey Currie. As the dirt and fiberglass body panels flew around the track, Rob managed to pilot his Team ReadyLift/Maxxis/Lucas Oil Ford race truck up to third place. Unfortunately for Rob some overly aggressive driving by Rodrigo Ampudia sent Naughton and his ReadyLift® Ford spinning out of control off the track. Being the fierce competitor he is, Naughton gripped the steering wheel a little tighter and powered his way through the field. But there were too few laps remaining and the best Fig could muster was a disappointing ninth place finish.

“I’m not sure what happened over there in turn three. I went into the corner looking to take a peak at Marty who was in second. I got a little lose going into the corner and then gathered it up and suddenly I got slammed and found myself spinning off the track. I tried everything to get back up there but after that contact and the spin, the back end of the truck just became too squirly and I couldn’t get any corner bite”, says Rob.

When dawn rose over the Fairplex on Sunday, the ready-to-win atmosphere was thick in the ReadyLift Racing pit. With the battle scars mended from Saturday, Rob’s ReadyLift/Maxxis/Lucas Oil steed was ready for war. Another great qualifying effort by Rob was muted by the inverted starting order. But as we have grown used to, starting mid-pack really lights a fire in Naughton’s cockpit. Once the racing order began to sort itself out in the early laps, it became clear to everyone that Rob was hell bent on getting to the front. Rob put on a clinic of how to race through the field. Even the TV cameras couldn’t help but stay on the ReadyLift® Ford as Rob blew through the field and up to the leaders. A fierce battle with Ampudia, Kincaid and Hart was incredibly intense. When Kincaid had to pit because of a flat tire and Hart ran out of brakes the final laps became the Rob and Rodrigo show. With several chances to dish out a little “pay back”, Rob showed the class and tact he has become known for and raced Rodrigo clean, eventually settling for second place and yet another winner’s circle podium appearance.

“That was a hard race”, Naughton said to the TV reporters.
“After yesterday’s race I really wanted that lead bad, but in the final laps the engine developed a miss coming out of the corner and I couldn’t get enough of a launch to try and put this ReadyLift/Maxxis Tire/Lucas Oil ProLite in position to take the lead. We’ll just have to put a new bullet in the truck and head to Chula Vista looking for another win”, says Naughton.

While Rob isn’t content with second place, the weekend did have one great result. Sunday’s second place finish earned Rob enough points to take over the championship lead by 15 points. That is a great confidence booster heading into the final three race weekends of the year.

ReadyLift® Suspension is proud to sponsor the CORR ProLite Championship Points Leader. Be sure to catch CORR rounds 11& 12 from Chula Vista LIVE on SPEED on Sept 13th where Rob Naughton and Team ReadyLift Racing will be fired up to dominate and extend the lead for the 2008 Championship!
